What is FEU?

Container shipping is the main way to transport goods around the world – it enables global trade. Container shipping is a highly efficient method of transporting goods. The container has made it possible for large ships to be designed to transport huge quantities of material, increasing global trade dramatically.

A forty-foot equivalent unit (FEU) is a shipping container whose internal dimensions measure about 40 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8 feet tall. It can hold between 20 and 24 pallets, depending on whether they are standard pallets or EUR-pallets.

It is a standard container size that can be loaded and sealed onto ships, railroad cars, trucks, and planes. The maximum gross mass for dry cargo FEU is 67,200 lb: 58,380 lb (net load) + 8,820 lb (empty container weight). It is the most frequently used container today.
