Chemical parcel tanker

Chemical tankers are ships constructed to carry a cargo of noxious liquid substances in bulk. There are two kinds of chemical tankers: one is an exclusive chemical tanker for carriage of an exclusive cargo, and the other one is a parcel chemical tanker capable of carrying many kinds of chemical cargoes.

The term “chemical parcel-tanker” are a type of tank ship purpose-built to carry a variety of bulk liquids that—
*Are a permanent part of the vessel
*Has multiple compartments to hold multiple liquid chemical cargoes and prevent them from mixing.

The ships are designed and built to provide exceptional flexibility of cargo tank use and cargo stowage over a wide range of liquid cargo characteristics.

Chemical parcel tankers are required to comply with the various safety aspects and also should have a valid certificate of fitness under the International Maritime Organization Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk.

Parcel chemical tankers typically up to 40,000 tonnes deadweight with multiple small cargo tanks - up to 54 - each with an individual pump and a dedicated pipeline, to carry small parcels of high-grade chemicals.

Apart from industrial chemicals and clean petroleum products the ships often carry other types of sensitive cargo which require a high standard of tank cleanings, such as palm oil, vegetable oils, tallow, caustic soda, and methanol.
