Distribution Center

A distribution center is a storage space that is usually built with specific requirements in mind. The warehouse and distribution center are used to store products, but the distribution center includes services like order fulfillment, packaging, cross-docking, and product mixing.

A distribution center is customer-centric and is the bridge between a supplier and its customers. Distribution center is usually the best option to handle the movement of goods in and out of a facility quickly on an individual order basis. A large inventory is received and distributed to resellers and retailers within a short period of time.

An example of a distribution center is a warehouse that handles perishable products. They will receive shipments in the morning and distribute them by the end of the same day.

Distribution centers carry out more complex operations than warehouses. For this reason, they rely heavily on high-end and up-to-date technology for operations like order processing, transport, and warehouse management. Three different types of distribution centers: Conventional, Mechanized, and Automated.
